Importantly, ANZAC Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand. ANZAC Day broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”.
April 25th marked the landing on the beaches of Gallipoli in 2015. Therefore, ANZAC Day was originally devised to honor the bravery of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (the ANZACs) who participated in that bloody and futile campaign.
The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Most importantly, ANZAC Day is a national occasion celebrated by Australians and New Zealanders around the world.
COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 ANZAC Dawn services and resumed in 2022. ANZAC Day 2024 in New York is a special occasion. It is an opportunity for Australians and New Zealanders to gather to commemorate this special day.
To mark ANZAC Day 2024 in New York, the Australian and New Zealand Consulates-General will host the Dawn Service. The Dawn Service is free and open to the public.
