The Australian Community is proud to announce that we have produced a powerful new documentary, Ten Australians.

This documentary offers a unique and intimate perspective on Australia’s diaspora in America. Through the personal stories of Australians who traded home for New York, the film explores identity, reinvention, and the threads that connect our two nations.

Ten Australians begins with exploring their origins and the values that shaped them, before following the leap that brought each of them to the city.

As they collide with the reality of New York—its beauty, its brutality, its opportunity—they rebuild, reinvent, and ultimately become part of the city’s fabric. But reinvention carries a cost. Distance, sacrifice, and vulnerability sit beneath the surface of their new lives.

In its final movements, Ten Australians widens its lens to how Australians continue to shape New York and the world today, before offering a quiet tribute to the Ten Australians who perished on September 11 — a tribute expressed through the reflections of the participants, the Spirit of Mateship that runs through the film, and the title of the documentary itself.

The world premiere will be held in September to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. More than a remembrance, Ten Australians is a tribute to the spirit and contributions of Australians—not only to New York, but around the world.

This documentary celebrates the extraordinary contributions and spirit of Australians in New York. Their stories are a tribute to Australian leadership, innovation, culture, and philanthropy and showcase the impact of their actions locally, to around the world.

Australians are making extraordinary contributions, and we want to share that impact with an American audience. At its core, this is a story about legacy, community, and shared humanity.

Most importantly, the film is dedicated to the memories of the Ten Australians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The film is set for release on September 11, 2026 – commemorating the milestone 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Why Support this Film?

While many marketing teams are preparing materials to mark the 250th Anniversary of American Independence, the same teams face a challenge to authentically honor the victims of 9/11.

For Australian or Australian-led companies in the U.S., this is especially poignant: Remembrance is woven into our national identity.
